One of the most interesting complains about Federation Force is that it heavily clashes with Metroid's dark and claustrophobic atmosfere. The small, almost chibi graphics of the title dont match well for some, and that is understandable. Of course, there are tons of reasons more, but let's focus on this aspect.

If Metroid is not the series to make this kind of game, which is? Because the idea of some kind of high tech sport is not a bad one, just look at Rocket League. Then I thought "The F-Zero may be a better fit". F-Zero is already located on a futuristic environement, there are precedents of this extreme sports (just look at the races, you'd think there are more than one sport on that universe) and there is the possibility to make the game as over-the-top as they wanted, because F-Zero is ALREADY over-the-top. Maybe this should have been an F-Zero spinoff.

But this clashes with another frequent complain: if we are angry due to Nintendo ignoring a regular Metroid game for so long, imagine how would people react if they knew Nintendo was making a new F-Zero... and it's just F-Zero Federation Force. They may have complained even more. But then again, Metroid is one of the Nintendo trinity of classic franchises: Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Maybe people would be more tolerant with a minor franchise as F-Zero (minor compared to those three).

What do you think? Should Metroid Federation Force have been F-Zero Federation Force? Or it would have caused an even bigger backlash?

You know it deserves the GOTY.
