People usually say this, but this is not true at all. Zelda is big in Japan (just not gigantic like Pokémon or Dragon Quest), it's just that it is even bigger in the US. For example: All home console Zeldas sold over 400k in Japan, with some of them even hitting 1m. Then, we have recent releases: all 3 Zeldas on 3DS managed to sell over 400k too, even if some of them are just remakes. I bet Zelda U will reach 300~400k in Japan as well. Keep in mind that these numbers are pretty good for Japan.
