if you ask me, critics and gamers both tend to be dumb and I have no faith in either

so even though XCX should get around a 94-95 IMO, I think an 87-88 is more reasonable. why? not because the game is bad, but because it's A) different from Xenoblade Chronicles and B) a well-designed hardcore game, and people who played the first one and expect it to be similar won't like A), and people who aren't hardcore gamers or don't like deep, well-designed games won't like B (if you think that doesn't make sense, you're wrong; even though grinding is considered poor game design, some people don't like it. a game having deep mechanics and having extras that push your knowledge of those mechanics is often regarded as just being "too hard" if the player can't master those mechanics; thus because a review is usually just someone's opinion and contains little to no objective analysis of the game, it might get bad reviews)

*shrugs*

tl;dr gaming industry stinks and so do review scores, a lot of the time :
