I would assume by Japanese Reception he's talking about user scores such as these:

with XCX getting 3 and a half stars compared to XC's 4 and a half. I don't personally put much weight in user reviews but I figure if one is going to talk about general consumer reception this is one of the few metrics.

I don't see any reason that FF Fanboys would be more of a problem now than they were for the previous Xenoblade.
I'm not saying that this means XCXis worse than XC but in the discussion of "Will XCX score as high as XC?" and people are saying that there's no question that it will score above a 9, I think there are reasonable points to be made that it might not.

Ok, then I'll start using userscores to trash all PS4 and xbone games. ;)
Of coure it's not likely going to be above 90% because most games fail to reach that score. LBP3 really isn't any worse than the first, but the score sure is.

If you want to use userscores in a discussion about how you think different games will do in metacritic go ahead. I personally don't see that as "trashing".
I would agree that it's unlikely to go above 90%, and the discussion here is whether or not it will go to 90 or above and beat Runbow. Some say that obviously it will because the previous game did and this one looks even better, to which th counter goes that the reception from Japan has not been as good which is the only region to be playing the game currently. That's all the discussion is, nothing about whether or not XCX is a worse game than XC just about the general expected metacritc score and whether or not it'll beat Runbow.
