I think that Marvel has an opportunity to make a "fantastic" Fantastic Four film. If they play their cards right, the movie might actually be a critical success with audiences and potential one of the best films in the MCU. Believe it or not the Fantastic Four has some of the most amazing stories in Marvels lore but it is essential that they pick and focus one thing at a time. The following are five things I think Marvel needs to consider before they inevitably shove them into the Avengers.
1) Don't do an origin's story unless IT IS THE OPENING SCENE! Let the radiation hit in the first minute and a half of the film. Flash backs during the developments of the characters is okay. This may be essential in the development of both Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom.
2) How they handle Dr. Doom is EVERYTHING. They need to make him menacing and terrifying. He needs his motives to be explained more clearly he needs to be focused on as a villain who is PULLING STRINGS and manipulating the course of the world.
3) I cannot stress enough that they need to focus on Reed Richards and show the audiences how interesting he can be and how powerful he really is. They NEED to show that he is the most intelligent Marvel super hero, WHICH HE IS!
4) Focus on all of the members of the Fantastic Four but as I stated above. Reed needs to be focused on primarily so the audience can connect with him, which in turn allow them to connect with the team more. They need to strike a proper balance between the members and the new movie did a horrible job at that.
5) They need to start big, yet start small. Dr. Doom needs to be a MAJOR player but not the villain that they fight. He needs to be a master manipulator and some of the smaller villains need to take the mettle against the Fantastic Four. The budget for the film may need to be much higher than expected and would be a risky investment that has the potential to reap incredible rewards for Marvel.
The ONE thing the movie did right was the fact they did not downplay anyone. I saw the appropriate strengths of each of the members and I was blown away to see no one was powered down. The Invisible Woman was inexperienced but you can tell that she will become a force to be reckoned with. Dr. Doom would rip anyone from the MCU into shreds... He would tear The Avengers apart. Obviously Marvel would need to limit them a bit but as we move into Phase 3 it is clear Marvel is starting to stop these BS nerfs. Ant-Man was pretty OP imo.
They need to also cast the actors properly. Kate Mara is cute but she is a terrible actor and always has been. She is incredibly bland in all of her movies and she has zero expressions and is incapable of showing emotions. This is the exact opposite of Sue Storm. Michael B. Jordan (Yes he is the son of Michael Jordan) was not far off from the personality of the Human Torch, he wasn't half bad but he could still be casted better. Jamie Bell as The Thing was actually quite decent. Jamie deserved far more screen time to shine and to prove if he is capable of being Ben. Ironically, I normally a distaste to Miles Teller as an actor and was expecting to hate him more than any of the other actors. I was shaken that he was surprisingly decent, even if he was a terrible Reed Richards, he was the most convincing person that could act in this film. No one could act in this movie at all aside for maybe Reg E. Cathey. It should be stated last but not least that Tobey Kebbell has potential to play a REAL Dr. Doom should he ever be given the chance by Marvel. l personally think that all of the characters in the franchise should be re-casted aside from having Ioan Gruffudd return as Reed Richards if he is willing to do so. He not only looks like Reed Richards, he displays a very convincing Reed and has increased his acting skills over time. To me he is to Reed Richards as what Robert Downey Jr. is to Tony Stark. A real life portrayal of his character. I would also be willing to see Toby Kibbell have a real shot as Dr. Doom.
I'd love to hear everyone else opinion on if they think Marvel should invest in the Fantastic Four. In my personal opinion I think they should and the rights to the series would be incredibly essential to the MCU. Even if it's just for Dr. Doom, the potential is sky high and the fans would go crazy if the film is done correctly. This could easily become a critical success that is far higher than any one is convinced of due to the current credibility of the series. If anyone has any doubt that a franchise can do a 180 degree turn around, then one only needs to take a look at what Christopher Nolan did to Batman. Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were both considered to be abominations of film making despite the fact they had phenomenal actors and were half entertaining.
