It will be in-between. The "generations" label doesn't really work, unless consoles release in roughly the same timeframe. A generation is *not* defined by specs but by time. Even if you're a weakling and a coach potato, you're still a generation ahead of your father who hits the gym 5 times a week. ;)

If Nintendo releases a new console in 2019 that's based on an ARM CPU it would still be a 9th generation console. If the world economy collapses due to a Zombie apocalypse and the next generation of consoles runs on NES-like hardware it would still be the 9th generation of consoles.
