Wii U is basically 7th gen specs and has no HDD. I feel it could have been 200 or 250 with a cheaper gamepad or wiimote.

Bottom line, high price is what made Wii U such a bomb.

Wii U have very compact and power efficient and solid (not strong) hardware. Wii U only consumpes around 30W, basicly like light bulb. Hardware like that have own cost regardless power of hardware. Like I wrote, Wii U would probably would cost $250-300 without gamepad instead $300-350, cost of gamepad is not $100 and you need to count cost of controller instead of gamepad.

What makes Wii U such a bomb isn't price point, it had much bigger reasons than that, like bad name of console, terrible marketing, week launch titles, software drouth..
