Great discussion going guys... Does it really matter if a game is a sequel or new IP? Super Mario Galaxy 2 is literally SMG1 with different levels and new mechanics... Yet is a great game! It's not about the mascot/main character in the box, is about the experience and gameplay it offers. Success doesn't come from the amount of new characters created.
The failure of the Wii U is not because of the games. The problem was Nintendo's handling of everything that came before the games. Marketing, awareness, the (fucking stupid) name, and much more. But the games (sequels or new IPs) are not the problem.
If that was the case, the 3DS would be a huge failure and the Vita a success. But look how that turned out...
