We've seen a lot of fights at the start the last years, so what's the problem?

What we'll get is the comeback of "you have 1 lap more of fuel, so stay behind doing nothing until he pits, then do a fast lap and voila. Don't dare to entertain the people watching the race with a fight on track." radio messages.


I like that the cars are at maximum pace all the time.. Not these 1:40 a lap at the beginning and 1:30 at the end.. Overtaking is already ruined by the artifical thing called DRS.. Overtaking takes no skill and has nothing to do with refueling..  There was less overtaking back then cause it failed far more times then nowadays. Some drivers back then could make their car wide and almost impossible to overtake which was a skill

I have no problem with lap times getting faster as the race goes.

DRS is bad because it gives an unfair advantage to the following car and makes things too easy, but we should not forget that it's a bandaid to a underlying problem the FIA created in the 90's. In the name of safety they began to ban things left and right and we ended with cars overly reliant in downforce that become unstable when not running in clean air. This is why overtaking became hard in first place.

Refueling has nothing to do with overtaking... directly. With refueling if the second car has more fuel than the first it can wait until the first pits, then do a fast lap and overtake it. That's because used tires + low fuel is way faster than new tires + high fuel. This is a very low risk move.

Right now this strategy don't work because both cars will always have similar fuel so the car that pits first will be faster until the second does the same due to its newer tires. In order to overtake a car in the pits you have to stop earlier which isn't as risk-free as the previous strategy, because you may end up in traffic due to less laps to build a lead with slower cars or have tire problems at the end of the stint. In this scenario overtaking in the track is a way better plan than in the previous one and therefore encouraged.
