Super Mario Galaxy used the pointer, even if you could have ignored it, I found it addicting to collect those star bits.
I agree about smash.
Mario Kart Wii uses the remote, but caters to the "hard core" gamers, who are stuck in the mud and can't adapt to new controllers. I personally will be using the motion controllers even if it means I'll suck online. I'll be having tons of fun.
Although it is a Sega game, Mario & Sonic use the motion controls too, and is selling great.
So 1 out of the 3 games that Nintendo has published recently has not used motion controlling or pointing. I don't see how you can claim Nintendo is failing at delivering motion control and pointing capabilities in its games.
EDIT: also, there are plenty of 3rd party games that have been released that are excelent and use motion controls or the pointing device.
