Action = Hack and slash with more bodily control, movement is far more important but combat is usually dumbed down to two buttons - Block and Attack.  (The Elder Scrolls, Dark and Demon Souls etc)

You have the same exact menu as almost ever FF game to date...Attack, Magic, Summon, Items...

Lol ill give ya Demons Souls, it was certainly more involved than the Dark Souls Series.

I don't see how you think Dark Souls uses two buttons.

L1 = block
L2 = parry
R1 = light attack
R2 = heavy attack
Triangle = change stance (changes attacks)
Square = use item (one of the commands you listed as a part of traditional FF menus)

You can also tap the d-pad to switch your equipped weapon to a magic spell, and use magic with the attack buttons. How is this dumbed down compared to the menu-based system? It's basically just hotkeys.

I said Usually Dumbed Down.  The vast majority of the time spent playing Dark Souls you are either Blocking with L1, or Attacking with R1.  Of course you could switch it up and make a spell build...and roll and cast instead...using two different buttons.

Are there exceptions?  Yes...but the most viable builds are specialized.

...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.

"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"
