"Absorb Wii U architecture" is unclear, what exactly do they mean by that? Hardware? Development environment? API's? It's rather unclear with the words used. But it could mean the same as what they did with Wii BC for the GPU. If I recall correctly in an Iwata Asks, Shiota stated that the people at AMD came up with an idea to use Wii U logic for Wii BC as well. Perhaps they're coming up with a way to use the new hardware, where it could be used for Wii U games as well. They don't even have to be the same architecture hardware-wise, just look at Wii vs Wii U for GPU, they're totally different in architectures, and yet they found out a way to make it work in one GPU package, same stuff being used for both (in a way).


Again, nothing in what Iwata says here leads to think that he is speaking of the board/CPU/GPU.

If you read only the first part:

"In this perspective, while we are only going to be able to start this with the next system, it will become important for us to accurately take advantage of what we have done with the Wii U architecture. It of course does not mean that we are going to use exactly the same architecture as Wii U, but we are going to create a system that can absorb the Wii U architecture adequately."

One could think that he is speaking indeed of the internal CPU/GPU combo.

But then he says: "When this happens, home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems."

What do the Wii U CPU/GPU have to do with handeld devices? Nothing! PS3/PS4 connectivity with Vita does work & neither has anything to do with "Wii U architecture".

Again, for me the last sentence is what gives Iwata's words meaning, the context.

When he speaks of Wii U architecture, he's referring to the general design, in a more broad way! Like I described a few posts before!
