The flaw in this argument is that Nintendo needs "saving"

It doesn't

Financially Nintendo is in no danger from one failed console, or even a few failed consoles.

In fact even now they are turning a small profit (granted this is mostly due to the declining value of the yen, but still its not bleeding money)

What Nintendo needs is for its developers to stop making the games they want and start making the games the consumer wants, Nintendo doesn't like making old school style games, they want to make supergamecube games and that is why the system is selling so poorly.

The reason Wii sold so well for a few years was because Nintendo stopped making gamecube style games for a while, but then they squandered all that momentum with games like Skyward sword and Other M and Mario Galaxy.
