Yeah, we have no idea what the future is going to bring. This is a several year marathon. Ultimately, in a few more years both consoles will probably be priced at $299.99 and have an entirely new library of exclusive offerings.

And let's not forget history. PS3 had a disasterous first year selling only 6 million consoles and look where it ended up. And yes, MS has goals and if PS4 is somehow exceeding their sales expectations, that doesn't all of the sudden make Xbox "meeting" sales expectations a failure.

Its not that complicated. One of three things can happen.

  1. Everything stays the same now and the PS4 will end the generation with a 1.8-2.0:1 win ratio over the XB1.
  2. Things get better for the XB1 and gets worse for the PS4 and the generation ends with a 1:1 ratio with both consoles being tied.
  3. Things get better for the PS4 and gets worse for the XB1 and the gen ends with a 3:1 ratio in favour of the PS4.
I was using the most resonable example just keeping things as they are now. And people really need to stop making unrealistic comaparisons to the PS3 when looking at the XB1s current state. And for these reasons.
  1. the Playstation brand was bigger than the xbox brand.
  2. PS3 still had its ass handed to it in NA, but dominated in europe and japan.  PS4 is dominating every territory so far.
  3. XB1 is struggling in NA, losing emphatically in europe and is DOA in japan.
So where exactly are the sales of the XB1 going to come from that would totally offset the PS4s dominace and maybe even outsell the PS4 yearly for the XB1 to make any sort of comeback.
