With PS4's hold in Japan I don't think Xbox One will ever surpass it, but who cares? It's good for consumers to have more than 1 successful console. In almost exactly one year we are looking at 13M to 7M. If we extrapolate thats going to end up being 100M to 55M or so. But you are right though, if MS can at least sell over 40M consoles to whatever the PS4 sells they will be very happy. 


Yeah, we have no idea what the future is going to bring. This is a several year marathon. Ultimately, in a few more years both consoles will probably be priced at $299.99 and have an entirely new library of exclusive offerings.

And let's not forget history. PS3 had a disasterous first year selling only 6 million consoles and look where it ended up. And yes, MS has goals and if PS4 is somehow exceeding their sales expectations, that doesn't all of the sudden make Xbox "meeting" sales expectations a failure.
