Xbox One Just Launched in Japan: Will it Succeed in its Uphill Battle for the Rising Sun?

by Giuseppe Nelva (2 hours ago) 80

After almost a year of delay the Xbox One has launched in Japan just a few seconds ago, marking a new attempt from Microsoft to conquer the archipelago of the rising sun.

The launch of the console was celebrated near the beginning of a 24-hour long event in Akihabara livestreamed on nico nico, which has been going on for four hours already.

Now Microsoft’s new console begins its uphill battle for the Japanese market share, having to cope with an audience that has always proved rather hostile to the Xbox brand. In the meanwhile Microsoft Japan President Takashi Sensui expressed confidence just yesterday in the possibility of achieving a successful result.

We’ll be able to see first results of the Xbox One’s attack on Japan on Wednesday, when the Media Create charts will be released.

In the meanwhile, you can check out a few pictures from the historical count down just below. In a funny case of symmetry, looks like there has been a dude in camo at the Japanese launch ceremonies  of both next-gen consoles.
