I think it has a lot to do with expectations. Many users expected Sony consoles to do much better in japan since the PS3 days due to how well the PS2 did there.

Now that that's not happening, even if the U is doing relatively well and is seeing an improvement in its baseline, I have noticed that users will either not care about that achievement or just automatically downplay it. The same can mostly be said for the 3DS, though to be fair it is doing much less well than the DS and there's no valid reason for it (in contrast with the U which is very different from the Wii).

And even, the Vita has managed to drastically improve its performance year over year, yet the comments remain "poor sales overall". To be honest I mostly read it from users which I understand to be mostly xbox or sony home console fans.

Yeah, I can see how whether the sales are good or bad for a few people is entirely dependent on the PS4, with 3DS sales instantly being called ovetracked or comparing it to the DS (though we all know comparing PS3 or 4 to PS2 is a sillly endeavour) and Wii U sales downplayed for a million reasons, and Vita ignored entirely.

Still, I'm lead to beleive these are surprisingly low either way, apparently. Though normal now.
