Well like some have said, US userbase is the most disloyal group. Even with the almost 200m PS2 sold WW, new generation of gamers did not have the same level of loyalty to the system. 360 was first to the market and was leaps and bounds better in tech than PS2, PS3 would be a year off at at an unheard of price point. Those who early adopt usually set the trend for the rest of the generation. After the first year you got a 360 because thats what all your friends already had, even if you grew up on PS. It took Sony years to repair that damage.

Basically you can't be both...
-Last to the Party
-Highest price point.

...and still expect everyone to flock to you. PS3 only survived partially due to brand recognition, and later could stand on it's own merit. US cares more about getting the cheapest alternative to the best tech. PS3 was more powerful but more costly. It wasn't until later that the truth about the 360 being "cheaper" really came to light. Once it did we started to see the change.

Sony said all the right things at a time when Microsoft did the exact opposite. PS4's price was right AND it has the superior hardware. Not to mention a much more tenured pedigree in the business, Sony pretty much had this generation on lock. Sure, MS has rectified many of gamer's squabbles but now what saved them in 360 era will be their undoing.
- Most already have PS4.....so all their Monkey See Monkey Do friends will follow suit.Like the 360, PS4 is easier to develop for and has the market's full attention so every developer wants to align themselves with them.
-Also MS's moneyhatting tactic is failing them as now they are being asked to pay outrageous sums because its no longer a no brainer to align with xbox, its a detriment, just as it was for PS3 early on.
- Even if they can wrangle an exclusive this way, it will be timed and the market has caught on to this. Exclusive COD Ghost content didn't stop PS4 version outselling XBO 2:1. And everyone here pretty much knows Titanfall is coming to PS4 at some point, with the developers not even fully committing to the idea they were exclusive in the first place.

There would need to be something drastic to change the market from where it is heading now. XBO would need to be $100 less than PS4 and stop losing games to PS4 appeal to many as a smart buy.

Its a snowball effect, which all started at one point. MS's DRM policy. They thought no one would notice or care. They had reason to believe so, because people still have no clue how they are being raped by Facebook,Google and Apple and their Data Farming. But via a few correctly timed "rumors", the spotlight was shined on this fact and there was nowhere for MS to run. They tried evading the questions but that made it worse. Its just been one bad news after another ever since.
