The 13-23 year old crowd has been raised to base their own self worth on how much attention they get. Whoever is the bigger attention whore, is king. No longer does it matter if you're actually talented, or have something tangible to offer the human race. No. Now, it's just about how many Facebook friends you snag, how many likes you can rack up and how many hits you can get from that YouTube video of yourself laying down on a busy sidewalk in the middle of NY city.
I pretty much lost all faith in US culture when someone actually tried to make vanity photos legit by giving them a name "selfie".
