This is why I told you that you can only assume Microsoft will do the same thing they did before at best. You can't assume they are going to change. Like XB1 the 360 started off with a good list of games and now look at it.

When was the last time Microsoft developed a new IP (not Kinect related)? I'll tell you when, it was 8 years ago with Viva Pinyata. Microsoft stopped making new IP's only 2 short years after the 360 released.

If you are talking about a new ip made completely with their first party studio only then yeah it's been a while and they should be ashamed.

What did Microsoft do with Rare? Made shovelware.

-There were people who enjoyed perfect dark zero, banjo, kameo, etc on the 360.

The fanbase, reviews and sales for those games are less then their the games Rare made on N64. MS bothced Rare.

What about Grounding Inc? Made a bad sequel. Who's to say they changed?

-Grounding from my understanding has always been considered an independent developer.  Crimson dragon went from a kinect game to a launch xbox one game of course the quality would not be considered the greatest.  The pressure of hitting a launch date and learning a new system at the same time can make even the best developers put out a sub par game.  Even though Forza 5 is still good it took many steps back in quality in order to make it for the launch.  Driveclub was suppose to be a launch title for the ps4 but it's been delayed a year probably because of the issues I listed trying to learn a new system and hit the console launch date would have caused them to put out a sub par game.

.Grounding isn't owned by Microsoft, but MS does invest a lot of money into the studio to make exclusives for them. Before Crimson Dragon they made Panzer Dragoon Orta for the XB, which was great and before that they made Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn which was even better. However the company has gone downhill and I'm sure Kinect controls was Microsofts idea.

The Last Story and Pandora's Tower are not developed by Nintendo. XenoBlade and Wii Sports are awesome, but when was the last time Nintendo made a new character like Kirby or Samus? Most of Nintendo's bigger mascots appeared during the NES/SNES era's and since then (except for a few RPG's and Nintendo published games) there have been few new mascots.

-Nintendo they own the IP and had input in the design and direction of the games and I'm sure at least a few of their programmers helped during the creation of the games.  A good game is a good game regardless of if a character in the game becomes popular enough to be considered a mascot.  Games like killzone are beloved by fans and it doesn't seem to have a strong mascot/hero associated with it but it's still a solid game.  I'm one of 3 people who own a ps vita in the US if I talk about gravity rush and mention Kat the majority of people won't know who that is just like no one knows who the hero is in soul sacrifice but it doesn't stop me from liking the games.

. Okay, but Pandora's Tower is only an average game at best. The Last Story and XenoBlade are amazing and I'm grateful for them, but Nintendo doesn't make many large scale IP's. Maybe 1 every 3 years (XenoBlade/Wii series for Wii, Pikmin/Animal Crossing for Gamecube and Smash Bros/Mario Spinoffs for N64). JRPG's are niche games and while I appreciate them It's still important to mention that Nintendo (and the Vita) lack a large audience new IP

Uncharted 1 released in 2007 (year 1 for PS3). So after 6 years of making Uncharted's they made a new IP. What did Bungie do after 6 years? They left Microsoft because they were done with Halo. What did Epic do after 7 years? They gave over Gears of War to Microsoft to move on. What else on 360 was a major IP?

Yes being done with Halo was a part of it but Bungie left more so because they wanted to be independent again.

. Without Bungie/Epic, I have nothing to look forward to on the XB1. 360 relied on these two franchises and instead of making new IP's (like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica) they left Microsoft. So what do I have left to look forward to? XB1 won't ever build a good software library, it won't even come close to 360's (which isn't that great considering it was abandoned after 2009)

NOW YOU GET IT! The 360 launched with a good variety of exclusive IP's (Perfect Dark, Kameo, PGR, Amped, Dead or Alive, Full Auto, Chromehounds, Prey, Dead Rising, N3, etc). Every single IP that released within 360's first year either went bust, or multiplatform. Then 360 launched a bunch of "timed exclusives" like Lost Planet and Elder Scrolls, so what does that say about XB1's 3rs party exclusives currently? Titanfall is already following a similar path to Mass Effect where 2 & 3 will be multiplatform.

-Phil Spencer is saying that they care more about building their own ips this generation instead of trying to get third party exclusives so I will believe him for now.  Itagaki who was a big supporter of microsoft was fired and then Tecmo started releasing their games for every system under the sun.  Bioware was bought by EA and EA has a track record of releasing games on multiple systems.  And like I mentioned earlier a lot of the third party exclusives that the 360 saw early in it's life was due to the ps3 not being out yet and developers not wanting to wait for ps3 before making games for a new gen.  Once the ps3 was released and developers learned how to take advantage of the system the exclusives from the third parties stopped for the 360.

.Why do you believe him for now? I recall Microsoft said the same thing after Mass Effect and GTA IV DLC went multi-platform. If they lied before, they will lie again. Microsoft paid for a lot of those 3rd party exclusives to be "timed exclusives" and this gen developers know that there is just more money making multi-platform games. Respawn even stated that the only reason they made Titanfall exclusive was because Microsoft would publish it

Based off trends we can expect at least 1 AAA new IP every year for the PS4. Be it Demon Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, The Last of Us or InFamous. None of these new IP's were known when PS3 released. Plus we can also expect PS4's lineup to get better and better where XB1 gets worse and worse.

Demon Souls is not developed by Sony and its spiritual successor Dark Souls is multi platform on the 360 and PS3.  Atlus will likely continue that trend to collect multi platform money.  Valkyria Chronicles left consoles and is strictly portable now it's not developed by sony and they don't own the IP so sega could release that on multiple platforms anytime they wish.

Sony has been losing key people and getting rid of developers and microsoft has been adding developers so no Sony will not be able to repeat the 1st party production they had last gen because the studios are no longer there and they aren't buying up new studios to replace the one's they get rid of.  Maybe that's why they seem to be pushing indies so hard this generation?SCE Liverpool closed they need to find someone new to do Wipeout,  Zipper is gone no more Socom or Mag for now.  Sony Santa Monica had to cancel a new IP due to layoffs.  Naughty Dog has lost key people as well.

.Still, there were 3rd party studios (mostly Japanese) who made exclusive games for Sony on the PS3 (it's still hapening with Drakengard and Tales of _). It's going to happen again for the PS4. Based off thrends we will see at least 1 AAA new IP for the PS4, be it Sony or not.

Sony's been closing smaller studios who made low volume/poorly rated games. e.g. The people who made Killzone Liberation and PSASBR. This isn't a bad sign, this means that Sony is cutting out the crap to focus on the good.

P.S. Just wanted to point out a funny trend. I bought all my PS consoles because of GT, and I bought my only XB console (the 360) because of Forza.

You made me think about a trend of my own on all of my PS consoles I have played a Gran Turismo, a Metal Gear Solid, a Resident Evil, and a Final Fantasy and on all of my Xbox consoles I have played a Halo and Forza title.

.That's not surprising, it's their biggest games. I didn't get into Resident Evil until the remake on Gamecube and for XB I only ever beat Halo 2. I own Forza 1, but it doesn't work well with the 360 wheel so I didn't play it much. Especially since PGR3 was so awesome.

I hope RE7 isn't a flop like 6 was.
