Which basically means that the seventh generation would have already seen a contraction, if it hadn't been for Nintendo.

Looking at it another way: If Sony didn't fuck up so hard and actually built the PS3 out of components that could be sold for much cheaper later on (ala the PS2), then there'd have been a $129 PS3 on the market (for one year longer!) and how do you think that would've sold!?

So you can make contextual arguments all you like, but that doesn't help you when the figures don't agree with you. The PS4 and X1 will be cheap as chips to produce in 3or4 years from now. Think about it.
