I've never believed that "Nintendo owns Japan." I always felt it was a war between Sony and Nintendo. Nintendo has the advantage in being the most popular handheld seller when Japan is heading towards being more handheld-centric.
Also, combining PS3 & PS4 isn't really a fair comparison to the Wii U by itself when the PS4 is still relatively fresh in their market (regardless of the rather large drop-off).
35k of the 47k is PS4.
Also worth noting: Wii U is notably doing less in Japan than in the other regions.
