Same problem like MS dropping Kinect. If they did that they would have nothing on the competition and seem even worse in comparison.

They would have Nintendo exclusives and a $199 price.  That's two very important things that the competition doesn't have.

The competition also doesn't have the same shape of the box. Your point?

People don't buy consoles solely for Software. Especially not people who never bought that system before. All 3 consoles have great exclusive software and 2 of them even have 3rd party games. If Nintendo games weren't enough so far they won't do the trick in a cheaper box. Without the new controller the customers will really be wondering why they don't just buy the much cheaper Wii.

My point is simple, despite the fact that you obviously missed it.

People do buy Nintendo consoles for software, plain and simple.  Why else would they?  They're not multimedia devices.

Did you ever think that maybe Nintendo games aren't enough so far because the console is still pricier than any Nintendo console before it, despite having dropped $50?

Why not just buy the much cheaper Wii?  Oh, I don't know... maybe because they stopped making games for it?

If someone isn't interested in buying a Nintendo console in the first place, how is keeping the Gamepad included at a higher price going to change that?  Your argument makes no sense.
