In actuality, the Wii U has been adjusted down for a few weeks already and is set do be adjusted down perhaps another 150-200k, leaving 5.1-5.2 million for the year end, with some okay sales in the last two sales days of december, the PS4 is likely 850-900k behind as of January 1st, with another likely 100-150k less for the first week in January and till today, that leaves about 700-850k behind in lifetime sales.

If the PS4 doesn't catch the Wii U within Q2 at this rate, I'll be downright shocked but I actually won't be surprised if it managed it before Q1 is over. With the supply issues and a decent launch in Japan, it's not hard to imagine 1.6-1.8 million more PS4's sold before the end of March. It is hard to imagine the Wii selling more than 60-65% of that though, as a best case scenario, so it will be terribly close.

And once it has passed, it's staying there for the generation.
