Drain their funds ?
Even if the Wii U is an absolute disaster, I expect Nintendo to make more money out of it than Microsoft or Sony ever will from their respective businesses.
I expect the Nextendo to be either something like a really powerfull and feature-rich tablet, or it won't exist at all. I think the next Nintendo handheld will be a very capable dx11 tier device, which can run many games with fantastic graphics and stream them to a tv. No need for an old school console.
