Why would a score that high would be impossible to see? GTA IV did 98! (although it didn't deserve it in my opinion). Maybe this next gen we will se another game like that could scratch a 99 on Metacritic!

Not impossible, just highly unlikely. It would have to be a game beloved by everyone, without any significant technical, artistic, or design issues.

Right now, I think Ocarina of Time is the only title with such a score, and, in my opinion, the only title worthy of such a score.
