On Saturday November 2nd, Activision will unveil its live action ad for Call of Duty: Ghosts titled “Epic Night Out”. Previous ads in the franchise have have featured a star studded cast. This year’s will be no different. The biggest change this time around — and a first for the yearly advertisement — is that a female will star the leading role, actress Megan Fox.

Call of Duty: Ghosts represents the first time that the franchise will introduce female soldiers. Yes, it’s taken 6 years for the franchise to realize that women are on the front lines. However, it’s better late than never and placing a female at the forefront of their ad this year is certainly a step in the right direction.

Glenn Cole, chief creative officer at 72andsunny — the agency behind the yearly advertisement, discussed with adweek why the team decided to go with Fox as their lead. “She’s fun, she’s sexy, she’s cool, she’s badass, she’s recognizable around the world. And the role was fun.”

In regards to how the ad  – which is being described as the Hangover meets Call of Duty —  eventually came out, Activision CMO Tim Ellis told Adweek “Each year we want to shock and awe our audience and the world… and we feel like this is the best work we’ve ever done.”

Megan Fox, while on the set of the ad spoke with E News and discussed the significance that her role plays, in regards to females being introduced to he franchise and her thoughts on why it’s significant:

“I know it’s going to be cool for my son to grow up and one day say ‘holy crap, that’s my mom… It’s about time that we have incorporated females into the cast of characters of these games because there are a lot of girl gamers.”
