The last of us had a nice balance between enemy awareness and playability, plus hilarious wtf moments for the friendly AI.

Best AI opposition I've had this gen was Tokyo Jungle's world AI. Ruthless kick you when your down while holding a shining carrot in the distance. Leading to the most epic saves and tragic failures. It probably was just a randomized engine though.

I'd agree with this. FEAR and Half Life are really the only games where the AI has stuck out.

Having said that, the AI in Far Cry 1 was exceptionally "good", but to the point of being unrealistic and destroying immersion. They didn't appear intelligent, they just had superhuman senses normally reserved for the Marvel universe, lol.

This gen, Killzone 2 & 3 weren't bad, Last of Us was fairly good, but otherwise nothing really sticks out.
