This would actually be really smart for Nintendo. Incentivize pre-orders with a free download of a game, which costs Nintendo nothing. Half the target market who would pre-order a Zelda game in the first place probably already either bought Seasons or decided against it due to still owning the GBC cartridge.
Give all of the others Seasons for free and they just might decide to buy Ages as well. And, as always, Nintendo continues to really push their digital business -- this gets new 3DS owners on the eShop acquiring digital content immediately, even if it is free. The install base is getting connected, seeing the storefront, looking at the digital merchandise. Smaaaaart.
