Still clutching the straws for a potential third (and final) season of Kaiji, still praying under the stars for that to happen. Why don't take a peek into One Outs blends the psychological nature of Kaiji/Akagi with the game of Baseball :P

Inspired by Hikaru No Go, they did an anime based on Xiangi (Chinese Chess) where the kids in the show end up play a VR version of the game, and the series is based around it:

There is also an anime based around Shogi (mute girl has trama from her past, but is real good at Shogi/Chess from Japan):
