Internet charts and polls don't translate to sales. Neither do preorders.
Wii U was breaking preorder records when it was releasing, but look how that turned out. Selling better than the PS3 did in 3 years, but still bad on Nintendo standards.
In the end it's really about who will have the most appealing library for the better price
