The premise is so fucking dumb!

Seems like a decent home invasion film though

The premise can be seen as a critique of anarchist or minarchist view of government.  I have not seen the film, but it piqued my interest, because it looks like it goes to the heart of individuals who don't want government, or also goes into how people end up feeling the poor and disadvantaged are a burden on society.  The world of the film is one where one day of the year, society has the opportunity for the advantaged people to go and off those they consider losers in life, who are a burden.  Idea is to have natural order eliminate the loser and unsuccessful so that the competent can survive.  For those who end up arguing now that the government is the source of all evil in society today, the films shows a society where it is the people themselves that do it, with no government.  I do recall here that when discussing The Hunger Games, out came people saying, "It is the government doing this evil!".  Well The Purge is similar in that you off the disadvantaged, so that the strong survive, and it is NOT the government doing it.
