What was wrong with inFAMOUS series?

i played 4 hours of the first one. well ill say it plain and simple, the game is boring in my opinion

Fair enough (though I'm not sure 4hrs of play of one title is enough to deem the entire series "boring").

The first one is boring and playing more than four hours isn't going to change that, but bananaking you really should atleast play through the game because the storyline segments that lead up to the ending and the ending are all very good.  Then play the second game because the first game not being that good doesn't mean the second one isn't great.  Lufia 1 to Lufia 2?  Street Fighter to Street Fighter 2?  Mortal Kombat Armageddon to Mortal Kombat 9?

The second game however, even with the same base gameplay is absolutely amazing.  It's like going from Street Fighter 1 to Street Fighter 2, except not nearly as much of a change.  The first game just had a lot of major issues that it didn't ever feel like you progressed while you were playing.  Whether you're on the first island, second island, or third island, you were fighting most of the exact same enemies with a reskin.  Each group had the generic enemy with a gun and except for the Reapers which had two, only one conduit.  But regardless how far you were it was like fighting the same enemies with more hit points. Then there's Cole.  Cole is slow on the first infamous, his melee is so close range it's completely useless, and your main ability, the standard bolt really feels cheap.  When you have only the bolt, grenades, and force for the longest time, not only are you playing throughout the entire game against what is practically the same enemies repeatedly but with the exact same skills with no deviation whatsoever, it's boring.

Infamous 2 changes all of that.  It's at the start of the game they point out that Cole now has the amp, and with it, they've made melee enjoyable this time around.  Sure it's hitting one button, but you have actual range, you can melee a close range enemy and knock him on the ground, shock other enemies or toss grenades, etc.  You're not tied to only using your electricity powers like on the first game because your melee sucks balls.  An issue with the bolts in the first game feeling really generic, they fixed this in the second  game where the bolts actually shoot out, shoot faster, etc.  Cole moves around faster, and most of the abilities you end with on the first game you start with on the second, so you can get around altogether faster.  They even added a feature to the game to have less repetition.  Instead of Cole having only one bolt, one bomb, one force, one missile, etc, as you progress you can learn others you can switch to at any time.  The artillery bolt shoots long range and has a sort of drop so you can shoot over buildings and hit enemies that are slightly further back you normally couldn't, or just shoot further.  The magnum bolt is slow and has quite a bit of recovery between each shock, but it's powerful, etc.  Thihs goes beyond just shock abilities to every single ability in your repertoire.

The enemies in Infamous 2 aren't the same enemy in each island.  You'll have three different factions again, but they're all different this time rather than the same reskinned people over and over that just have more hit points.  The side missions are also better and the storyline is better.  Infamous 2 also has one of the best openings in any video game ever.

Infamous 2 is what you get when you fix all the issues that the first one had.  The first one had potential but overall it wasn't really good.   Playable, but that's all.  Not deserving of the overrated praise it got.
