Interesting review. I've thought about looking into Sleeping Dogs a few times but have always had a bit of hesitation, almost completely for the reasons you've outlined. Sandbox games contain a lot of potential for both fun and boredom, and a lot of times tight mechanics get tossed to the side.
Thanks for writing this. It seems to suffer from many of the problems I've worried about.
