This guy struck it lucky and was able to make a game that made his name. He can now choose his projects. Has every game hes made been brilliant? Debatable.
Now, on the other side of the coin, there a legions of talented designers who havnt had his chance to shine. They work for developers who are slaves to publishers. They take any job they can and are told to get on with it.
I would love to pick ten unknown designers including mr Garriot, give them equal funds and tell them to make me a game. Then we would see how good you really were.
