I see his sense of self-worth hasn't diminished in these years...

All the same though, one probably shouldn't take his words as harshly as they sound. The man has never been good at trying to be diplomatic in his terminology, but I think most everyone has considered exactly what he was trying to say over the last while...

If you think about it, most gamers would probably agree that, over time, there has been something of a downward trend of the quality in gaming. I don't think it's to the level that he claims, that most game designers 'suck', so much as there has been a monopolizing of the industry by bigger players who need those hits in order to survive. Certain genres aren't cost effective enough, so they aren't accepted, thus limiting the scope of what will be sold to us. So I'd be more inclined to say that there isn't really THAT much wrong with game designers...it's trying to deal with the limitations imposed by the industry to limit game designers from going with the more creative approaches.

Basically, game design is a casualty of the bottom line, but it seems outright spurious to damn even most game designers when the only way to have a 'vision' these days is to either be really lucky as to which company you work for or when the crowd funding pays for it.
