According to Nintendo's shipment data for the previous quarter, the DS shipped less than 10K in Japan (it actually has only shipped 10K in the last 9 months), 1.14M in the Americas, and only 30K in EU + the rest of the world.  So, if the DS dies in the US, then expect it to die in the rest of the world shortly thereafter.

The 3DS completely killed the DS in Europe and Japan. The America's just need to catch up with the times.
