This weekend I've finally maxed out my WiiU usage, been catching up on old TV series and following my Coursera course. I was a bit let down with the media capabilities of the WiiU. If you don't live in a mayor media consumption country the streaming capabilities are non-existant... and was hoping the WiiU to be a DLNA compliant device.

I remember during launch, I heard tidbits about streaming MP4 content over to the WiiU, but didn't think much about it. This was done through the browser, and as some of you know is pretty robust - it has even become the primary device for some. So on Saturday I surfed around and I ended up with Plex. And thanks to this software I've been able to easily stream my media from the PC to the WiiU, no hassles and good quality. My WiiU can finally stream my own content.

Also at weekends I follow an online course from Coursera (some good courses offered there). Noticed that the video lectures were in MP4 format, after the success with Plex decided to give the WiiU another go. It worked great on both the TV or just the Gamepad. I'd still prefer to use the laptop for this task, but if it isn't available the WiiU can do the job.

As I discovered this weekend, MP4 usage is quite extent (got to thank mobile devices for that). And just like shown with Wii Street U, I'm sure the browser will continue to surprise via HTML5; but at least WiiU has MP4.
