The casual audience is a fickle crowd looking for the next 'in' thing to own. That is why Sony, MS and Ninty build their console brands with core flagship franchises which keep the loyal fanbase happy gen after gen. You cannot rely on a strategy that needs the casual market to stay relevant , even if it brings success, it is most likely temporary.

I agree and disagree.   There is huge importance to maintaining your core fan base.  However, without the mass market (casuals) you risk becoming ever more niche.  Nintendo was having this problem with it's home consoles up until Wii.  Despite their family friendly games, casuals mostly bought PS2's.

On the flipside, more of the same will not bring convert any Sony/MS fans either.   If they really shake up Zelda - it has the potential but they were saying similar things about revising Zelda before Skyward Sword.  I don't foresee them going anywhere near far enough to win over Drake Fortune/GoW/Halo/CoD fans.  And perhaps that's for the best as Zelda fans would scream murder if they did (see Resident Evil fans...)
