Then you'd have to change the name from "Studio of the Year" if you made it dependent on games from previous years.  As it stands, the only things that should matter are games released in the year of the awards, regardless of being a new or old studio.  I'm fine with that.

So what's the difference between Game of the Year and Studio of the Year? The studio behind the game of the year will always win with your logic. Why didn't Naughty Dogs win Studio of the Year in 2009? Because Rocksteady won. New dev. Why did Media Molecule win SotY in 2008? New dev.
