on advertising i received a one to one on WiiU and 360 ads, i cannot recall getting any PS3 ads most of the 360 adds were for the new bundle and the 50 bucks off, the WiiU ads were more hey there is a new console, from amazon and gamestop mainly. note i do not watch tv outside of football games anymore.

and while i do not consider it a victory its still pretty damn good sales considering the price should be down to about 149 now for a 360 with an hdd being able to hold sales up this year at 199 means they may give it a go one more year, release the set top box in-between next year and a full console the year after a few places have rumored to a two prong microsoft move next generation with a low end option aimed at media consumption more then gaming and a true 360 successor later

personally i feel the two pronged option will only confuse some buyers and dilute the brand name, i also feel MS has been destroying the 360 brand for the last two sub par GUI updates... this years should have been what we saw last year and its still has many usability problems. I feel like MS is sacrificing usability in the name of uniformity and hoping the can force it across all platforms regardless of if it makes sense how its being used or if it slows users down.... and as an added benefit drive up ad revenue

ads: I was referring to the black friday print ads. I extensively research this... WiiU had zero. I know AFTER BF I also received a few emails from toys r us regarding WiiU being a new console, but that was it. One email. Amazon didn't advertise WiiU because it isnt' even carrying it... at least not in US. I get Gamestops's emails and I don't remember seeing it, but truthfully I didn't really read the email much.

360's successor will be out next year, end of story. Sales are down well over double digits year over year and there were significant bundling plus a $50 price drop this holiday accross the board and a ton of advertising from EVERY retailer and MS themselves. (same goes for PS3 really)

ads, you are right, correction to ads was toys'r'us not amazon. and would not know about print ads, used to read paper daily but have fallen out of the habit just online stuff for me… don't even watch tv anymore.

the release date we have had this discussion before and i don't see my stance or yours changing , i still see 2014 as a good possibility if the set top box rumor is true. it would be a nice test for them of how far they can stretch the brand
