There is not much connection between them actually, FarCry 1 (PC, not those horrible console port/versions) is direct predecessor to Crysis 1, and plays similar, though better in my opinion (for my taste, FarCry 1 is one of best FPS of all times).
FarCry 2 has nothing to do with it except name and engine - Ubi bought IP and Cryengine 1 from Crytek, reworked and advanced it to Dunia engine, and made open world FPS which alienated lot of fans of first game, but it was quite good game, with some problems though.
With the reviews it's getting, 3rd installment seems to be doing all the right things to get fans of both games, and all other lovers of open-world FPS.
