Number 46: StarFox 64, N64 (1997) Nintendo (last year 44)

This is, of course, a classic story of four animals at war with an ape-man. Filled with memorable quotes, original stages, and pure rail-shooter action. The only reason it's lower down my list is because the game had rather circular difficulty, in the sense that the worse you did (like sustaining a certain amount of damage) would make the game harder to play (with a weakened fighter), or losing teammates and they'd be gone the following phase, or falling onto Titania and having to go through Titania :/

My 45: "Star Wolf" could be an accurate description of this game's protagonist, having nothing to do with Nintendo or Star Fox otherwise.
