Hey, that IS pretty amusing! I didn't even realize that BenQ's mobile went under. |
Siemens and BenQ deliberately killed 3000 jobs within 2 years with this acquisition farce. Employees and politics begged Siemens to re-structure the division instead of selling it, as it was clear from the start what will happen. Experts warned both companies that the risks would be bigger than the benefits and that the loss of image could be substantial. Both companies didn't care. BenQ most probably just wanted the mobile technology, but definitely not the employees, Siemens wanted to get rid of their mobile department and those employees. Today Siemens is still struggling with the huge loss of image in Germany, people and local media did not forget (the company is a local big player with a long tradition, founded more than 160 years ago in Berlin with currently more than 400.000 employees). BenQ didn't struggle over here as they never had a real image anyway. I still don't really understand what their real goal was. If it was just the mobile technology, it didn't pay off. BenQ stopped making phones altogether (i.e. also in Asia) in 2008. The Siemens/BenQ case is one of the most obvious cases of corporate mismanagement of recent years.
