a) the ps3 is actually FURTHER behind the 360 NOW than it was when it launched! So 360 has outsold the ps3 since ps3's launch.
b) the ps3 is 7 million consoles behind the 360...at 100k/week in extra sales over 360, it would take 70 weeks to catch up...however, ps3 is currently only selling around 20k more a week, which means 350 weeks, or almost 7 years to catch up
c) consoles that come in 2nd by a large margin (ps360 to wii) don't tend to last more than 5 years...so ps3 needs to really start outselling the 360 if it wants to catch up before the ps4 comes out
now, all that said, i think ps3 is more likely to beat 360 than vice-versa
but, those are 3 of the reasons why people say 360 will beat the ps3...and you certaintly can't call them crazy for thinking so...the current-gen data just doesn't support a ps3>360 argument very well...the hope of future games and 'brand loyalty' and 'blu-ray purchasers' is what ps3 is hoping for to go against what the current data suggests
