It's not an MMO as such, it's a more standard match-by-match based shooter. You'll play in the stardard modes with time/score limits for taking over certain territory. Which is where the interesting part comes in: EVE.
The connectivity to EVE (which is the mmo) is that the battles taking place in Dust are on the planets in the EVE universe. Players from EVE can hire Dust players as mercenaries to fight for control of the planets for them. The players from EVE can also watch over the battles and send orbital bombardments to help out their team, among other things.
I'm sure someone might be able to explain it a bit better than me, but that's my understanding of it so far.
