It is doubtful this will happen because of the gap in sales. Plus the PS3 will slow down markedly in mature markets once the PS4 has been announced. The one advantage the PS3 has though is that people can buy new as a replacement and not lose DLC/DLG (downloaded content/downloaded games). Nintendo's locked system may actually cost them replacement sales (instead, the systems are serviced).

But if it happens because no one is buying the Wii but instead buying the B/C WiiU, does it really matter?
With backward compatibility, Nintendo effectively eliminates the market for its old technology so it only has to focus on one generation of hardware.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
