Something Cell Phone companies also need to learn is exclusives are dumb. Just plain dumb. They get less chance of selling more of their smartphone and they anger the Cell Phone Providers and their customers when they don't get a certain phone. They need to make things more widely available. |
Its the nature of the business due to carriers.
Nokia's job is to persue AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or whoever to buy their phones. Nokia would gladly make things available to everyone but the carriers don't want this. AT&T is getting beind the Lumia 900 only because this is something they can have and other carriers can't.
Carriers don't make a lot of sense to me to be honest. AT&T has ordered both HTC Titan 2 and Nokia Lumia in large quantities. HTC would not have made the Titan 2 if AT&T wasn't willing to sell it as they are the only carrier with that device. It makes absolutely no sense for AT&T to want the Titan 2. Sure the Titan was a good seller for them, but they have the Lumia 900 which they are paying 150 million to advertise themselves. Then there is a 199 dollar price VS 99 for the Lumia 900.
Lumia 900 marketing push + better hardware design + half the price = a lot of unsold Titan 2 inventory
It would have made so much more sense for Titan 2 to go to Verizon and Verizon, AT&T, Nokia, HTC and Microsoft would have been much better off for it. A 10 year old could figure this out, so I wonder why these companies couldn't put the 2 and 2 together...
