If Mario Galaxy were called something different, it wouldn't be as celebrated as it is. Nostalgia plays a huge role in Nintendo's holy trinity. These games have been refined and re-defined over the course of two decades. The fundamentals were laid out back in the glory days of the NES. If the Big "N" did pull out all the stops, and made an amazing new IP, we'd love it. We'd buy it. We'd play it. Still, in the back of our minds, the new game wouldn't be as endearing to us as the franchises that shaped our child hoods. Kinda like if a new Sci-fi franchise were released. -No matter how good it would be, many of us would still hold it below Star-Wars.
