This sux so bad. I love STALKER.

Another proof that piracy is hurting PC gaming.

What part the lack of a publisher for the console versions of the latest entry of a series that has sold over 4 million copies, or the part where creatibg a AAA exclusive game was to expensive?

Because nether of those things have anything to do with piracy, I mean it's not like anyone is making is making AAA single player 3rd party exclusives for any platform these days. Especially not without a publisher.

That they were dependant on a console publishing deal to finish the game. PC sales would have been too low.

Well that is rumour and conjecture, there was no official word on the reason. And PC sales being to low on a series that even the expandalones crack a million sales, every game has made a profit says nothing about piracy. There are hardly any AAA 3rd party exclusives on any platform these days, so it's more a statement on the cost of producing a AAA game vs the potential returns, that is even if the explination put forword (by someone who admits he doesn't actually know what is going on and is just putting forword theorys bassed on 2nd hand accounts) is even half true.

More likely the game was canceled as they couldn't find a publisher for any version and they burnt though their cash reserves building the game and looking for a publisher and when they couldn't find one for PC or consoles, so they had to lay off most of the team or go bankrupt. The same thing happened to a lot of console developers at the start of this generation as well. Unless you are someone like Valve you don't make a AAA game without a publisher and even big publishers try to get games on as many platforms as possible.

Of course there are other rumours floating arround as to why they shut down as well, including the head of the studio wanting to get out of game development, legal trouble etc.
